Rebecca Ryan

Associate Solicitor, Industrial Disease

Manchester

Rebecca Ryan is an Associate Solicitor in our Industrial Disease department, based in our Bristol office.

Professional Biography

Rebecca began on her legal career by earning an LL.B in Law with Honours degree from Staffordshire University, followed by completing the Legal Practice Course at the University of the West of England. She qualified as a Solicitor in January 2013, having begun her focus on Industrial Disease claims in 2009.

Initially, Rebecca worked on a variety of claims including Noise-Induced Hearing Loss, Occupational Asthma, Repetitive Strain Injuries, and Vibration White Finger. Over the past few years, her focus has shifted primarily to asbestos-related claims. Rebecca has successfully settled many complex asbestos claims, some of which have required extensive preparation for trial. Her role often involves reconstructing the work history of individuals who have passed away before the beginning of a claim, which includes interviewing family members and friends, conducting witness appeals, and collaborating with other Solicitors who have managed similar cases.

In her day-to-day role, Rebecca handles all aspects of asbestos-related litigation. This includes taking statements from clients, obtaining medical and work records, incepting after-the-event insurance, and liaising with defendants' insurers and Solicitors. She is competent at researching companies and previous asbestos claims against them, instructing experts, preparing schedules of loss, issuing claim forms, serving proceedings, gathering additional evidence and witnesses, preparing disclosure statements, considering expert reports, negotiating settlements, and preparing for and attending trials when necessary.

Professional Memberships/Accreditations

Rebecca is an APIL Accredited Senior Litigator and an Occupational and Asbestos Disease Specialist, a recognition she has held since January 2018.

Rebecca’s passion for law began at A-Level, leading her to pursue a Law degree and eventually, the Legal Practice Course. After initially working in Property Litigation for four years and briefly in Personal Injury, she found her calling in Industrial Disease claims in 2009. Rebecca is committed to supporting her clients through challenging times, particularly those who have received life-limiting diagnoses and are concerned about their families' futures. Rebecca is highly motivated to help people with their benefit applications and legal claims. She understands that by taking on some of their worries, she can give them the freedom to do things that might not have been possible without financial support. Rebecca finds it very rewarding to know that her work ensures families are financially cared for, especially when her clients have previously been the main caregivers for their partners, before their diagnosis. For Rebecca, helping others in this way is not just part of her job, but a commitment to making a meaningful difference in their lives.

Rebecca’s expertise and empathetic approach make her a great advocate for her clients, ensuring they receive diligent legal representation and the support they need during difficult times.
