Megan Barlow is a Solicitor Apprentice in our Care Proceedings team, based in Manchester.
Professional Biography
Megan graduated with a First Class Honours in Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Bangor University in June 2021. She started her career at Simpson Millar in July 2021, initially working as a Legal Call Handler, before becoming a Paralegal in August 2022, and then transitioning to a Solicitor Apprentice in January 2024.
In her current position, Megan works closely with Solicitors on their caseloads, performing a variety of tasks essential for efficient case management. This includes drafting letters to clients, preparing applications, and writing briefs for other professionals. She also assists in court hearings, supports counsel, and arranges necessary intermediary and psychological assessments to determine additional support needs for clients in hearings. Megan's responsibilities extend to arranging interpreters and representing clients at Public Law Outline (PLO) meetings, where she helps address concerns raised by Local Authorities and assists parents in improving their parenting to avoid care proceedings.
Megan runs her own caseload as well, specialising in private law matters involving children and social service involvement, focusing on cases involving children under Local Authority safeguarding and domestic abuse work. She has achieved successful outcomes for clients, including instances where the Local Authority has reduced their involvement with the family.
