The team finished their Winter Wonderwheels challenge at midnight on 6 December. They completed a total of 607 miles and raised £1,461 so far.

In the North vs South battle, the South was victorious!

Even though the challenge is over, you can still donate. Go to our Justgiving page and support the amazing work the Spinal Injuries Association are doing with people with spinal cord injuries, and their families.

You can catch up on the video below and see a highlights show on Channel 4 this Saturday, 12 December, at 8.30am. Clare Balding will show some of the amazing people who've been taking part.

About the Winter Wonderwheels Challenge

A team of 8 Simpson Millar colleagues have signed up to the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) Winter Wonderwheels challenge, and are raising money to help people who’ve been affected by spinal cord injuries and their families.

It’s a battle of SIA Superheroes in a North vs South battle to see who can cover the most miles on foot or by wheels between the 5 November and 6 December.

We’ll be updating the mileage total and the money we’ve raised each week throughout the challenge.

As of 26 November we’ve:

  • raised £1,306 as a team
  • completed 478 miles

Who’s Taking Part?

Our team of Wonderwheels colleagues have their own reasons for completing the challenge. Let’s meet the team:

Avyna Patel – Avyna is a Solicitor who works in our Personal Injury team. She’s been absolutely smashing the challenge – she’s done 137 miles!

Caprice Haughton – Caprice works in our Personal Injury department and she decided to take part as during the last lockdown, she wasn’t as active and it impacted her cerebral palsy and the use of her legs. The Winter Wonderwheels challenge has helped her to get up and moving, raise money for a great cause and give her a little goal each day. She’s completed 31 miles to date.

Rebecca Wood – Rebecca works in our New Business Team and is keen to get out during Lockdown Part 2 and support the SIA.

Mel Varey – Mel is our Head of Court of Protection and even though she’s not keen on the winter weather, she’s already done 29 miles.

Mel Burden – Mel, our Head of Serious Injury, has been channelling superheroes throughout this challenge, wearing her son’s Batman and Ironman masks. This has obviously helped her out as she’s done 140 miles already!

Ian Cohen – Our Head of Personal Injury and Medical Negligence has been eating up the miles on his bike. He’s already done 54 miles.

Laura Holdsworth – Client Engagement and Loyalty Manager Laura has been getting out during Lockdown 2 by running in the mornings. She’s aiming for 50 miles and has already done 55 miles.

If you want to donate to the SIA to support people with spinal cord injuries and their families, you can on our Justgiving page.
