Joe Ailion

Family Law Solicitor

Thank you so much for everything. Your contribution was so great, and working with you was so much better than I could imagine. Surrogacy Client

Joe joined our Family Law team in 2021. He qualified as a Solicitor in 2016 and has specialised in Family Law ever since. He is a member of the Modern Families team, who help people build and protect their families, however they are formed.

Joe helps clients with all aspects of Private Family Law which spans divorce and its related financial issues, child arrangements and fertility law matters.

Joe has experience in complex children litigation. This includes:

      • Disputes between parents about “residence” and “contact” (known as Child Arrangements)
      • Disputes about all aspects of a child’s upbringing such as education, health and religious issues. This includes cases in which the Court is invited to determine these issues in absence of an agreement (Specific Issue Orders) or prevent certain steps being taken in respect of them (Prohibited Steps Orders)
      • Relocation both within England & Wales and internationally
      • International child abduction
      • Cases involving complex welfare concerns such as serious allegations of domestic abuse, parental alienation, controlling & coercive behaviour and other such safety concerns

Joe also has experience in fertility law. He has assisted and advised surrogates or intended parents in respect of proposed surrogacy arrangements. He has successfully represented intended parents in securing a Parental Order following surrogacy arrangements. This includes cases with an international element or other complicating factors.

Joe also handles divorce and the financial issues which flow from this. Joe has represented clients on cases involving business assets, issues with disclosure and involving arguments that one party’s conduct has been such that it justifies being taken into account in a financial settlement.

Joe has experience working on cases with complex religious and cultural issues, including those within the Jewish community. Being Jewish himself, Joe has a natural sensitivity to such issues and their importance to the individuals and communities they affect.

Joe is fiercely committed to his clients. He recognises that Family Law issues will come at the most difficult of times for any client. He is dedicated to being a supportive presence. He has frequently navigated clients throughout their Family Law process, from the problem first arising through Court proceedings to a Final Hearing if necessary.

However, Joe will take a creative approach wherever possible: his focus is on resolving the problem quickly and constructively. He often helps clients make progress without the cost and stress of Court proceedings when it is preferable.

Before his legal career, Joe gained extensive experience in youth work. He was a part of the British wing of an international youth organisation, where he oversaw the activities in the North of England as well as training leadership volunteers. From this experience, Joe developed an empathetic and sensitive approach when dealing with child welfare issues, especially when working with parents. He takes pride in this manner and seeks to maintain it within his legal work.

Joe was awarded his LLB Law degree from the University of Birmingham and his LPC at the University of Law in Manchester. He secured his training contract at Pannone (which became part of Slater & Gordon) and trained within a specialist family team there.

Since qualification, Joe has worked exclusively in specialist Family Law teams ranked in the top tiers of various Legal Directories including Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners.

Joe regularly presents on Family Law at careers seminars, most often for school and university students.
