Court of Protection Paralegal
Nicole works in the Court of Protection team and has experience of dealing with both health & welfare and property & affairs matters.
She has assisted in cases when vulnerable adults wish to challenge an authorisation depriving them of their liberty in care homes, residential placements or where there are disagreements over an individual’s capacity or best interests.
She has assisted solicitors within the team to represent parties in respect of best interests and section 21a appeals against Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).
Currently, however, Nicole’s primary role is based within the property & affairs team, supporting the solicitors with their caseload of Deputyship matters and the set up and management of Personal Injury Trusts.
This involves assisting in the management of substantial compensation awards received on clients’ behalf through successful litigation claims, whether the client lacks capacity or not.
Nicole works closely with the Serious Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence departments within the firm. She has close links with having worked with them for over a year when she originally joined Simpson Millar in July 2018.
She made the switch to the Public Law team in September 2019.
Nicole graduated with a 2:1 degree in Law from the University of Surrey in June 2018. Alongside her degree, she volunteered for the Surrey Law Centre at the Guildford Citizen’s Advice Bureau. She also gained experience working in financial law at her previous firm.
She is currently studying for her LPC part-time at The University of Law in Guildford.
