Katy Phillips-Farmer

Paralegal, Public Law and Human Rights

Career

As a Paralegal, Katy supports Solicitors within our Public Law & Human Rights team.

Katy’s day-to-day role involves assisting with case matters within the areas of public law and human rights, claims against public authorities and community care. This has included cases concerning age assessments, support for child and adult victims of trafficking and asylum support.

After graduating with her LLB Law Degree in 2015, Katy worked as a private client legal advisor and more recently she has worked for Shelter, giving holistic housing and welfare benefits advice to vulnerable families. In the latter role, Katy was successful in addressing system discrimination towards families with NRPF or unstable immigration status.

Katy also has experience from a variety of volunteer roles; overseeing family contact at a CAFCASS contact centre and providing support for the Magpie Project who support destitute mothers with young children.

In 2020, Katy moved to the Netherlands and studied for her LLM in Globalisation and Law with a specialism in human rights at Maastricht University.

Outside of Work

Katy loves to travel and explore new places and had a great time doing just that while she was living in the Netherlands for a year.

Her favourite place to visit is Nepal. After volunteering there for three months, it wasn’t long before Katy went back because she missed the people and country so much.

Katy also enjoys fundraising and has ran two half marathons. One of these was for Shelter and the other for the men’s mental health charity, CALM.
