Education Law Helpline Manager and Associate
Career
Joanne manages the running of our Education Helpline and supervises the work of the Paralegals within the team. She also manages her own caseload of Education matters.
Prior to joining Simpson Millar, Joanne spent 10 years working variously as an Archaeological Archivist, a Care Support Worker and an Events Production Manager alongside bringing up her two daughters.
She has worked within the Public Law Department for seven years and has spent six of those in the Education and Community Care Team.
Joanne has supported numerous parents throughout the whole process of obtaining Statements and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) for their children.
She has successfully negotiated increased support for children and young people ranging from improvements to provision specified in their EHCP, to placements at independent special schools when the Local Authority had refused to agree to these, as well as mainstream placements for children whom the Local Authority wished to place in a special school against their parents’ wishes.

Interests outside of work
Joanne is a singer-songwriter and folk singer. She also enjoys walking in the hills and spending time with family and friends.
