Partner, Care Home Solicitor
James joined Simpson Millar in 2010 as a Legal Advisor in the Employment Law department.
Since qualifying as a Solicitor in 2013, he has played a key role in the establishment and growth of our Care Homes department. He was made an Associate in 2016, and after a short time spent with another law firm, re-joined Simpson Millar as a Partner in August 2017.
He has extensive practical experience in Care Home services provision, as well as a detailed knowledge of the law and guidance underpinning NHS Continuing Healthcare. He applies this in a persuasive way and prides himself on his ability to work collaboratively with Clinical Commissioning Groups in pursuit of fair outcomes.
James has achieved many favourable outcomes for clients going through all stages of the Continuing Healthcare assessment process, and in cases reaching the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman.
James studied Law with Spanish at Aberystwyth University, spending a year reading Spanish Law at the Universidad de Oviedo before graduating in 2009. He went on to complete his vocational training the following year.
Interests outside of work
James is a Spanish speaker and gets back to Spain whenever he can to maintain his language skills. But where this is not possible, he enjoys Spanish music and film. He enjoys watching period dramas and reading medieval history which has been something of an obsession since his childhood years.
