Education and Community Care Associate
Emily joined Simpson Millar In 2006, a year after qualifying as a Solicitor. She had previously trained with Irwin Mitchell and became Director of Maxwell Gillott (a previous trading style of Simpson Millar) in 2007.
Emily specialises in Community Care including Court of Protection cases as well as in Education Law and access to health services. She brings a holistic and thoughtful approach to all cases and is frequently instructed by professional advocates.
Emily has worked with disabled people and their families throughout her career and is committed to supporting individuals to achieve and maintain maximum independence and to protecting human rights, in particular in relation to deprivation of liberty and to private and family life.
Emily accepts instructions in relation to court of protection cases, judicial review and special educational needs tribunals amongst other kinds of cases. Her work includes representing parties in matters where accommodation, family contact, education, treatment or other significant issues are in dispute.
She was quoted in Chambers and Partners 2014 as being a “very strong” practitioner, according to sources.
Interests outside of work
Mountain activities and working at a local ‘People’s Café’ which is a project run by volunteers that collect waste food and distribute it to those who need it.
