Career

Emily joined Simpson Millar In 2006, a year after qualifying as a Solicitor. She had previously trained with Irwin Mitchell and became Director of Maxwell Gillott (a previous trading style of Simpson Millar) in 2007.

Emily specialises in Court of Protection cases, although she previously developed expertise in wider Community Care access to health and social care services as well as Education Law. She brings a holistic and thoughtful approach to all cases and is frequently instructed by professional advocates and the Official Solicitor as well as by individuals.

Emily has worked with disabled people and their families throughout her career and is committed to supporting individuals to achieve and maintain maximum independence and to protecting human rights, in particular in relation to deprivation of liberty and to private and family life.

Emily accepts instructions in relation to Court of Protection cases, Judicial Review and Special Educational Needs Tribunals. Her work includes representing parties in matters where accommodation, care, contact and other relations, education, treatment or other significant issues are in dispute.

Interests outside of work

Emily enjoys mountain activities and has volunteered with projects supporting access to the fells and conservation and with a local People’s Café distributing otherwise wasted food to those who in need it.
