Court of Protection Solicitor
Colm Bourke is a Solicitor in our Court of Protection department, based in London.
Colm has been practising as a Solicitor since his admission on 20th July 2023, focusing on Court of Protection in health and welfare cases. He completed his Legal Practice Course (LPC) at BPP between 2021 and 2023 and holds an LLB from Queens University Belfast, achieved in 2015. Starting his career as a Paralegal in 2016, Colm began his training contract in 2021 and has been working specifically in Court of Protection health and welfare since March 2022.
Colm specialises in supporting vulnerable individuals who wish to challenge decisions that affect their liberty, particularly in cases involving disputes about an individual's capacity or best interests. These matters often address sensitive issues, including residence, care and contact.
Colm is an accredited member of the Law Society’s Mental Health Accreditation Scheme, reflecting his expertise and commitment in this area of law.
Colm's decision to pursue a career in law was influenced by his passion for helping and assisting vulnerable people. This passion was ignited during his three years of volunteering for St Joseph's club in North London, a day centre run by his local church for people suffering from mental disorders and autism. This experience provided him with invaluable insight into the challenges faced by vulnerable individuals and inspired his specialised focus in his legal career.
