Education Lawyers who yesterday issued a letter before action to Ofqual relating to the grading of A Levels have today welcomed a Government announcement that students will receive the grades predicted for them by their teachers.
The news will come as a ‘huge relief’ to thousands of pupils, many of whom have faced ‘emotional distress and great uncertainty’ since the A Level results were published last Thursday.
Education and Public Law Solicitor Dan Rosenberg from Simpson Millar, who was instructed by several students as well as the Good Law Project to challenge the appeals process said, “We’re absolutely delighted by today’s announcement which will come as a huge relief to thousands of students and their families.
“Since Thursday it has become increasingly apparent that the system in place for grading A Levels in the absence of traditional exams was not fit for purpose. We have been utterly overwhelmed by calls from young adults who have not been accepted into their universities of choice because of results that were two or more grades lower than those assessed by their school.
“All of them have spoken of the emotional distress that such uncertainty has caused.
“While it is a real shame that it reached a point where the threat of legal action was necessary to facilitate change, today’s announcement does mean that students will now get the recognition and the qualifications that they have worked so hard for.”
