Trainee Solicitor, Care Proceedings
Bristol

Lauren Best is a Trainee Solicitor within our Health and Welfare, Court of Protection department. She is based in Bristol.
Lauren joined Simpson Millar as a Paralegal in the Child Care Proceedings team in August 2022, where she supported solicitors representing parents and families involved in care proceedings. In 2025, she successfully secured a place on Simpson Millar's Solicitor Qualifying Programme, beginning her training contract. As part of her training, Lauren joined the Court of Protection, Health and Welfare team in May 2026 and is due to qualify as a Solicitor in March 2027.
Since joining the team, Lauren has gained experience supporting solicitors across a broad range of Health and Welfare Court of Protection matters, assisting on cases involving individuals who lack the mental capacity to make certain decisions about their health, care, or welfare. She works closely with colleagues to help ensure that clients' rights, wishes, and best interests are fully considered throughout proceedings. Her responsibilities include preparing briefs for barristers, drafting witness statements and other legal documents, liaising with parties involved in proceedings, and supporting the progression of cases.
Lauren regularly attends court hearings alongside solicitors and barristers, visits clients in their placements, prepares and submits legal aid applications, and assists with matters involving the Official Solicitor, who represents individuals who lack capacity in court proceedings. She is committed to ensuring clients receive compassionate support whilst helping cases progress efficiently.
Lauren graduated from the University of Bristol in 2020 with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), achieving First Class Honours. She then went on to complete a Master of Science (MSc) in Law and Business at the University of Law, graduating with Distinction in 2021.
Lauren chose a career in law because she was drawn to the intellectual challenge it offered. Since entering legal practice, she has seen first-hand the positive difference that legal support can make to people's everyday lives. She is passionate about helping some of the most vulnerable members of society and is committed to providing compassionate, practical support to clients and their families during what can often be difficult and sensitive circumstances.
