Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week
Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness week is an opportunity to join the conversation about sexual abuse and violence.
Our team of Abuse Solicitors at Simpson Millar understand that it can be overwhelming to make the decision to report physical or sexual abuse.
But, it’s important to know that if you do, you’ll be offered support every step of the way.
During Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness week, hundreds of events take place all over the country to raise awareness about sexual abuse and violence. Our abuse team is currently participating in a virtual car boot sale for Survivors Manchester.
Survivors Manchester is a voluntary organisation and registered charity that creates and facilitates safe spaces for male survivors of sexual abuse, rape and sexual exploitation and provides access to quality-assured support across the Greater Manchester area.
A new campaign, that has the backing of the Duchess of Cornwall and Theresa May, has launched today, the first day of Sexual Abuse and Violence Awareness Week. This campaign will highlight the specialist support that’s offered at dozens of Sexual Assault and Referral Centre’s in England (SARCs).
The NHS is also encouraging victims and survivors of sexual and domestic abuse to come forward for NHS help and care. This is part of a major campaign, backed by a £20 million boost, to help specialist services over the next three years.
“It’s such a difficult time for the country, with public services struggling to secure funding, so it’s fantastic news that there will be a £20 million boost to services for survivors of sexual abuse.
There’s a crucial need for NHS services to support survivors of sexual abuse, especially after the pandemic, so this is such a welcome boost. We hope it will encourage survivors of abuse to come forward, knowing that support is available.”
