Medical Negligence Compensation

To make a successful medical negligence claim, the law requires you to prove that the standard of care you received fell below what you would reasonably expect. You must also prove you’ve suffered a physical or mental injury as a direct result of that action or inaction.

At Simpson Millar we offer a highly personal service that’s tailored to every client. Our friendly and approachable team of clinical and medical experts will listen to you, and speak to you in plain English without legal jargon.

One of our Medical Negligence Solicitors worked as a nurse and midwife for 14 years before becoming a Solicitor. She experienced many medical complications and obstetric emergencies in a busy maternity unit. This kind of invaluable insight allows us to undertake a forensic analysis of medical records, and to identify the key issues in a medical negligence case.

If we can take on your case, we’ll ensure that a Medical Negligence Solicitor is assigned to your case who will oversee your claim. We may also be able to help you claim bereavement damages if you suffered the loss of a child as a result of medical negligence.

Cwm Taf Maternity Services Putting Patients at Risk

An independent review of the Royal Glamorgan and Prince Charles Hospitals by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecology and the Royal College of Midwives found that Cwm Taf Health Board's maternity services were "under extreme pressure" and heard that female patients had "distressing experiences and poor care".

When the review concluded that the Health Board’s maternity services are “dysfunctional” and putting patients at risk, the maternity services were put into special measures by the Welsh Health Minister Vaughan Gething.

The review also found that serious incidents at the Royal Glamorgan and Prince Charles Hospitals had been under-reported, with 67 stillbirths dating back to 2010 not being reported for inclusion in national statistics. The investigation was prompted by 25 serious incidents between January 2016 and September 2018, including 8 stillbirths and 4 neonatal deaths.

Helen Rogers, Director for Wales at the Royal College of Midwives, stated that the women, babies and families cared for by Cwm Taf have been failed “too many times”.
