A Medical Negligence Claim Case Study - Client Situation
Following the birth of her baby, a midwife didn’t carry out a full examination of our client. As a result, the midwife failed to identify a 3rd degree perineal tear, and recorded that our client had suffered a first degree tear.
This led to our client not being referred to the obstetrician for suturing and being allowed to return home. Due to the midwife’s mistake, our client ended up experiencing a number of painful symptoms.
This included her experiencing severe pain whenever she tried to pass stools and suffering occasional incontinence and embarrassing wind. Furthermore, she experienced extreme pain during sexual intercourse, which led to psychosexual problems.
As a consequence of the poor care received from the midwife and the failure to diagnose a 3rd degree tear, our client was forced to undergo a delayed primary repair of the anal sphincter.
