Remote Appointments and Consultations

Over the last year, the Covid-19 pandemic has meant that many businesses have had to change their working practices, and Simpson Millar is no exception.

For us, remote appointments and consultations are now much more common than they were pre-Covid.

In the past, clients would be expected to attend consultations, medical appointments and Court appointments in person.

But platforms such as Skype, Zoom and Microsoft Teams mean that it’s now possible for this to all take place from the comfort of the client’s home or wherever it is convenient for them to carry out the appointment.

Covid-19 meant that it was no longer possible to physically go to Court, so in order to stop the legal system grinding to a halt, Courts had to quickly adapt to using remote platforms to conduct hearings and trials.

As lockdown restrictions lift and we (hopefully) start to return to normal life, it remains to be seen if Courts will keep the option of conducting hearings and trials remotely, or if they will go back to requiring people to attend in person.

But this remote way of operating has been shown to work, so there is a good chance they will continue to work in this way.

As far as we at Simpson Millar are concerned, we’ll certainly continue embracing these innovations, so our clients have maximum choice about how they deal with us, and so the claims process can be made as simple and straightforward as possible.
