Areas of Expertise:

Paul Cain is a Solicitor in our Medical Negligence team, based in our Leeds office.

Professional Biography

Paul qualified as a Solicitor in 1998, after achieving his LLB Honours degree at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1989, and the Law Society Final Pass at the Leeds Metropolitan University in 1990. His career has predominantly focused on representing claimants in high-value and complex claims. Notably, between 2012-2013, he worked for the NHS claims handling authority (now NHS Resolution), gaining invaluable insights into healthcare litigation.

Since 2013, Paul has specialised in Clinical Negligence claims on behalf of claimants. He possesses expertise in handling Medical Negligence cases that involve surgical errors, amputations, delayed diagnoses (including stroke and cancer), Cauda Equina injuries, birth defect claims, fatalities, and cases involving a failure to obtain informed consent. His extensive experience covers actions against a range of healthcare professionals from surgeons and clinicians to general practitioners, nurses, and midwives.

Since joining Simpson Millar in April 2024, Paul's primary responsibility has been investigating claims for clients who have sustained injuries due to medical treatment they have received. On a day-to-day basis, he progresses claims by securing and analysing evidence, drafting critical correspondence to clients and third parties, and arranging consultations with medical experts and barristers as needed. His approach is thorough and strategic, aiming to resolve cases through negotiation or, if necessary, litigation, always with the goal of securing the maximum compensation in the shortest possible time.
