Paul is our Head of Compliance and he is based in our Leeds office.
Professional Biography
Paul has achieved a Degree in Law LLB (Hons) from Sheffield Hallam University, where he studied from 1993 to 1996. Joining Simpson Millar in 2014 as a Compliance Manager, he stepped into his current role as Head of Compliance in May 2023. With over 8 years of experience in reinforcing regulatory compliance frameworks at a national law firm, Paul has established himself as an authority in various areas of compliance and legislation.
In his role, Paul is responsible for providing frontline advice to staff on a range of compliance issues, including the SRA Standards and Regulations, GDPR, Anti-Money Laundering legislation, Business Continuity, and more. He acts as the Anti-Money Laundering Reporting Officer, coordinating SARs and liaising with the National Crime Agency. As the Data Protection Officer, Paul oversees the breach management process, handles Subject Access Requests, and ensures GDPR compliance.
His responsibilities extend to establishing our internal audit framework, producing compliance training content, managing the Lexcel accreditation process, and drafting and approving various legal and financial documents. Paul's expertise in regulatory matters is further demonstrated through his role in drafting Risk and Compliance Policies, chairing the Risk Committee, and maintaining centralised compliance registers.
