Our client was walking along a road when a vehicle struck a wall nearby. The wall then collapsed onto the lady who sustained fractures to her left tibia and right ankle. As a result of the accident she was admitted to hospital and underwent surgery. This has a huge impact on her life and contacted us to help her pursue a claim for compensation.
An intramedullary nail was used to fix the tibial fracture and an external fixator was fitted to her right ankle. Our client had to stay in hospital and subsequently a care unit for quite some time. When she was eventually allowed home, she was initially only able to use the downstairs of the house as she had to use a gutter frame and a wheelchair. She then needed considerable assistance from her family and health services. As a result of her ordeal her mental health was affected, she had to have further surgery, still suffers with disability and finds some day to day tasks impossible.

What we did to help our client
We assessed the situation and prepared a claim to compensate our client for her injuries and their effects on her lifestyle. We also calculated the amount of care she has needed so far, both professionally and from her family, as well as future care costs. This amount took into account that our client now has a high risk of developing osteoarthritis. We investigated the amount of extra travel she had to do as a result of her injuries and what she may need to do in the future, as well as the cost of servicing the stairlift which had to be fitted to her home to allow her to live a near normal life.
The Outcome
Our client decided to settle out of court for the sum of £85,000. This has helped her pay for care and get her life back on track.
