Is it Safe to go on Holiday to Portugal?
Even though Portugal has been put back on the quarantine list, you can still choose to travel there on holiday. But unless you’re visiting the Azores or Madeira islands, you’ll need to self-isolate for two weeks when you get back.
Whether you’re looking to squeeze in a last-minute holiday before the summer ends or you’ve just gotten back, Portugal is a popular choice of destination for tourists every year.
But like any holiday, things can still go wrong, so it’s good to know what your rights are if you have an accident on holiday.
If you were injured in an accident on holiday in Portugal or while on a flight to or from Portugal, you may be entitled to compensation.
Our Holiday Claims Solicitors offer a free claims assessment with legal advice, and deal with many holiday accident claims on a No Win, No Fee basis.
Holiday Accidents in Portugal
Every year we help many tourists secure compensation after experiencing accidents on holiday in popular Portuguese destinations such as:
- Ponta Delgada
Wherever you had your accident in Portugal, we can help you.
What Accidents Can I Claim for?
Even though hotels, resorts and airlines should be taking extra safety precautions at the moment because of Coronavirus, accidents can still happen anytime and anywhere.
Our Holiday Claims Solicitors can help you with:
- Airline accidents, including when getting on/off a plane or an in-flight accident
- Accidents in a hotel or resort e.g. slipping on an unmarked wet floor
- Swimming pool and diving accidents
- Water park and theme park accidents
- Road traffic accidents involving a rented car, bike or moped
- Pedestrian accidents
- Accidents during an excursion booked as part of your holiday
- Accidents in public e.g. in a shop or restaurant
Any of these accidents could happen in a popular holiday destination such as Portugal. If you’re unsure whether your accident falls under any of the above, we can still help you. Just get in touch with our Holiday Claims Solicitors for a free claims assessment with legal advice.
How Much Compensation Can I Claim?
Everyone’s accident is different, so until we’ve gone through the details of your accident with you, and how your injuries have affected your life, we can’t put an exact figure to your claim.
The amount of compensation awarded will reflect the nature of your accident and the severity of your injuries. It’ll also depend on what legislation your accident is covered under or subject to. For example:
- The Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018
- The Montreal Convention
- Local Portuguese law
Different legislation will apply depending on where your accident took place and whether or not you booked your Portugal holiday as part of a package deal. One of our Holiday Claims Solicitors can advise you if you’re unsure whether you booked a package holiday.
Should I Travel Abroad During Coronavirus?
It’s now legal to travel abroad during Coronavirus as long as you’re following safety precautions and local laws and regulations at all times.
With local and foreign government guidance changing frequently at the moment, it’s important to stay up to date with the news and regulations both during your holiday and when you return home.
Will Coronavirus Affect My Claim?
While delays might be expected during Coronavirus, this shouldn’t affect the overall outcome of your claim. But different countries will have different precautions in place, so the length of time it takes to start your claim could vary.
For example, it might take longer to get medical treatment if hospitals are extra busy because of Coronavirus. However, we still recommend getting medical advice and treatment for your injuries as soon as possible.
It’s also worth getting in touch with your travel insurance company for guidance and checking the terms and conditions of your holiday contract. Always keep a hold of any documents you’re given by a hospital or local authority e.g. the police if you were injured in a road accident abroad.
While we always recommend getting legal advice as soon as possible, anyone who has an accident on holiday in Portugal has three years from the date the accident happened to make a claim.
Our Holiday Claims Solicitors regularly deal with accidents in Portugal, for example £10,000 Compensation Payout in Portugal Holiday Accident Claim – so they know exactly what steps you should take.
If we can take on your case, we’ll handle everything for you from start to finish, so you can focus on recovering from your injuries.
