The last week of July saw the start of the 2020 Rapid Motorcycle Training, which Simpson Millar proudly support as a sponsor along with other motorcycle industry leaders.

One of our Catastrophic Injury Team has been a motorcycle instructor for many years in various forms and an on-track racing instructor for 10 years.

Rapid Training is all about teaching students the skills they need to ride a motorcycle after they’ve passed their test. This is done partially within the safety of a race track. Over the two training days, over 60 riders were put through their paces, and gained confidence to make them safer road riders.

This year, Kevin has decided to donate all his earnings from the track instruction to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity which recently helped his son and daughter-in-law become parents to a baby boy after a very tough time.

Baby Arthur was unfortunately born with a serious heart condition and needed major surgery after a period of being very unwell on life support.

Kevin told us, “Because of the incredible help and support Birmingham Children’s Hospital have given us, I have decided to donate all my proceeds from track instruction, along with the collections at each event, to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital charity. I’m proud to help such a fantastic cause.”

Kevin’s son and daughter-in-law, who are helping with the fundraising said, “We will never be able to thank the NHS enough, especially the incredible team at Birmingham Children’s Hospital for saving our baby’s life, the midwives at Birmingham Women’s Hospital for making our birth experience as calm and stress free as possible, and the wonderful sonographers at Kings Mill Hospital for spotting that something wasn’t right with our baby’s heart at our 20 week scan. This allowed us to prepare for what was to come and ensure we were in the right place.”

Kevin and his family are aiming is to raise around £2,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity as a thank you for all they have done for his family.

Thanks to the motorcycle riders who have already made donations at the first Rapid Training event of the year. If you’d like to make a donation, please get in touch with Kevin at [email protected]
