Lambeth Redress Scheme Case Study
Our Client's Situation
Mr M was living in a Lambeth Children’s Home called Highland Road in 1982 when he was a child. Over a 2-month period, he suffered psychological, racial, physical and sexual abuse on a number of occasions.
This left him feeling fearful of the home he was living in, and he continued to experience psychological problems for years following the abuse.
As it was a Lambeth Children’s Home that Mr M was abused in, he was eligible for an award under the Lambeth Redress Scheme. The compensation scheme was introduced by Lambeth Council in response to several allegations of child abuse across their children’s homes.
How We Helped
Mr M first approached our Child Abuse Lawyers in June 2019 asking us to help with his Lambeth Redress Scheme claim and Senior Paralegal, Kate Hall, took on his case.
Our Abuse Team have experience in handling applications to the Lambeth Redress Scheme, and have helped many victims of abuse successfully bring a claim.
Kate supported Mr M through every step of the Lambeth Redress Scheme claim. This included reviewing the entirety of his social care records and arranging a psychological assessment. We then reviewed the medical report and discussed it in detail with him.
We understand the psychological difficulties and stress that come with talking about abuse in childhood. The thought of then making a claim for compensation on top of this can feel especially overwhelming.
Our Abuse Solicitors are specialists in dealing with cases of childhood abuse and understand the impact it can have on victims’ lives.
We’re here to guide you through the process from start to finish, and will aim to make the claim as easy as possible for you.
The Outcome For Our Client
Mr M was rewarded £88,000 in compensation in November 2020.
After finding out the result of his claim, he told us:
“My life has changed so much for the better now and Kate’s results and hard work have given me opportunities that I never thought would be possible for me in my life.”Mr M, Child Abuse Client
Mr M also said that he did not feel he would have been able to make it through to the end of the claim, but felt like he could continue with the support and expertise from Kate.
We’re pleased we could help Mr M on his road to recovery and wish him all the best for the future.
