Our client, a man only in his 20s, was a front seat passenger in a car being driven by his colleague when the driver lost control.
The car veered into the path of an oncoming vehicle on the opposite carriageway, and our client sustained a fracture to the right femur and a significant injury to his left leg in the car crash. The injuries were devastating and he was forced to undergo multiple operations over the next few years, including a below the knee amputation of his left leg several years after the accident.
Although he was fitted with a prosthesis, he was unable to use it for some time because of cysts and infections at the stump of his leg. This had a profound psychological impact on our client, and he developed a significant mood disorder with depressive features, and a phobia and anxiety of travelling in a car as a passenger.
He is currently receiving counselling and taking antidepressants to help him overcome these difficulties.
As a result of the injuries he sustained in the car crash, he has been unable to return to work as an engineer travelling between different sites. This will seriously impact upon his earnings potential in the future, and if he does work again, he’s likely to have to undertake sedentary roles.

Simon contacted the driver of the car in which our client was travelling, arguing that they were driving too fast when they lost control of the car. Simon also claimed on the grounds that the driver hadn’t adequately observed or noticed the presence of the oncoming vehicle in the other lane.
As a result, they didn’t stop, slow down or make any manoeuvre to avoid hitting the other vehicle, thereby directly causing the car accident, and in turn, the injuries to our client.
Our client was awarded a total of £2,400,000 compensation which will help him meet his day-to-day living costs while he remains unable to work and undergoes additional surgery.
This amount of compensation also gives him the means to access the care and support he needs to live as independent a life as possible, such as specialist intensive physiotherapy and adaptations made to his home.
