Professional Biography

Susan began her legal career in 1993 and brings over 30 years of experience in Personal Injury law. She joined Simpson Millar in August 2001, initially working directly with clients on Road Traffic Accidents claims. Over the years, she has progressed through a number of senior roles and became a Partner in 2008. She went on to become Head of the Road Traffic Accidents (I was head in 2007), then Technical Manager in 2016. Today, she provides oversight serious and complex cases within the department, supporting the wider team with her extensive knowledge and experience.

Throughout her career, Susan has helped clients who have suffered life-changing injuries and supported families following fatal road traffic collisions. She is known for her straightforward, compassionate approach and her determination to secure the best possible outcome for each person she represents. She regularly acts in cases involving multiple defendants, contested liability and difficult medical or legal issues, and has successfully resolved cases both through negotiation and at trial.

Susan specialises in representing individuals who have been seriously injured in road traffic accidents, as well as families who have lost a loved one in tragic circumstances. Her experience covers a wide range of cases involving pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists, many of whom have sustained life-changing injuries such as brain damage, spinal cord injuries and amputations. As a Partner and a Team Leader, Susan supervises a team of Solicitors handling serious injury claims and continues to represent clients herself. Her day-to-day work includes investigating how the incident happened, working closely with medical experts, calculating long-term losses and care needs, and negotiating settlements that meet her clients’ current and future needs. She is also there to guide clients through each stage of the legal process, offering clear and honest advice throughout.

  • £1.7 million settlement for the family of a man who was killed after being hit by a heavy goods vehicle (HGV). The compensation helped the family achieve financial stability, covering the loss of income and providing long-term support for the psychological and practical impact of their bereavement.
  • £1.45 million for a client who lost his lower left limb after his moped was struck by a turning vehicle. This settlement allowed the client to access advanced prosthetics, ongoing rehabilitation, adapted accommodation, and support for his return to daily life and independence.
