Hannah Morris is a Legal Executive within the Court of Protection, Health and Welfare team. She is based in our Manchester office.
Professional Biography
Hannah graduated from the University of Stirling in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) (Hons) in Psychology, achieving a 2:1. She later pursued a legal career, completing her Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) at Leeds Metropolitan University in 2004 with Merit, followed by the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at the College of Law in York in 2006, achieving a Commendation. In July 2015, she became a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (FCILEx).
Hannah joined Simpson Millar in August 2017, bringing with her extensive experience from her previous role as Head of the Care Costs Department at another law firm. She has been advising on NHS Continuing Healthcare Funding claims since 2011, using her in-depth knowledge of the National Framework and assessment process to assist families in securing appropriate care funding. Her work involved preparing detailed reports, advocating on behalf of families during assessments, and providing comprehensive evidence to the NHS to support funding applications, both retrospectively and for individuals currently in care.
Hannah worked within the Property and Affairs team throughout her time at Simpson Millar, managing financial matters on behalf of individuals who lacked capacity. She later transitioned to the Health and Welfare team, where she now represents vulnerable individuals and their families in Court of Protection proceedings. Her broad legal experience in health and social care law allows her to manage complex legal and care-related challenges effectively.
Hannah specialises in cases where a vulnerable adult wishes to challenge decisions that deprive them of their liberty (meaning they are under continuous supervision and not free to leave, requiring legal authorisation). She also handles cases involving disputes over a person’s mental capacity and best interests, particularly regarding care arrangements, residence, and contact with family and support networks. She regularly receives instructions from the Official Solicitor (a court-appointed representative for individuals who lack the capacity to instruct a Solicitor), advocates, and family members. Her role includes reviewing medical and legal evidence, attending court hearings, and ensuring that all decisions made about an individual's care and welfare are lawful and in their best interests.
Hannah’s background in both psychology and law gives her a unique perspective when working with vulnerable clients, allowing her to approach cases with both legal expertise and understanding of the emotional and cognitive challenges faced by individuals lacking capacity. Her experience across NHS Continuing Healthcare, Court of Protection, and Property and Affairs matters makes her a trusted advisor in complex cases. She takes a practical, compassionate, and client-focused approach, always striving to secure the best possible outcome for those she represents.
