Julie’s expertise lies in defending drivers and those in road haulage facing motoring offences or criminal offences. She also provides criminal defence to clients school term time holiday prosecutions.
Julie obtained her degree and a Masters in Law at Lancaster University and then obtained her Bar qualification at the University of West of England. She holds a dual qualification as a solicitor and non-practising barrister, having been called to the Bar in 2002.
From 2003 until 2007 Julie worked as a Magistrates' Court Legal Adviser to the Magistrates of Thames Valley, initially, and later Cheshire. This gave Julie invaluable insight as to the arguments that are likely to find favour at trial or on sentence with the Magistrates.
In 2007 Julie decided to move into the area of road traffic and transport defence and is recognised as an expert and leader in her field with proven expertise in defending drivers and companies accused of committing road traffic and transport offences.
In addition to being an experienced road traffic offence Solicitor Julie assists parents prosecuted for failing to secure their child’s regular attendance at school. Julie and her department boast an enviable success rate in defending parents and used to advise Magistrates on law, evidence and sentencing as a former Legal Adviser.
Julie boasts excellent success rates at trial and in cases whereby a client wishes to avoid a driving disqualification and her approach and preparation in road traffic cases means that clients rarely fail to achieve their objective.
Julie joined Simpson Millar in October 2014 as Partner and Head of Motoring Offences and Criminal Defence team. Previously Julie had set up and run a number of successful road traffic departments at several Legal 500 Manchester based practices.
Julie is a keen ice skater and can often be found at her local ice rink at the weekend. She aims to join the synchronised ice skating team by 2015. Julie is also an avid fan of Formula 1 racing and baking.
