Senior Associate Solicitor, Court of Protection
Kate is a Senior Associate Solicitor in our Court of Protection team. She is a property and affairs deputy appointed by the Court of Protection to manage the finances of individuals who lack capacity.
During her career, she has worked on many complex cases involving high value litigation, cross border issues and welfare issues.
She also makes applications for statutory wills, gifts, gratuitous care payments and other related matters, and has a particular interest in contested applications, and helping people resolve problems with other family members who are deputies or attorneys.
Over the years, she has been privileged to work with a huge range of families to make sure their finances are managed efficiently, transparently and in line with each person’s wishes, feelings and beliefs.
This includes people from many different backgrounds and cultures, including Irish Travellers, blended families, south Asian families and transgender clients.
Kate is committed to working collaboratively and focusing on her clients’ best interests, as well as helping families resolve any issues they have in the Court of Protection.
She is listed as a rising star in the Legal 500 2022 and is a co-author of The Court of Protection Handbook – A Practitioner’s Guide.
Professional Memberships & Accreditations
In 2012, Kate founded the Court of Protection Practitioner’s Association (CoPPA), which rapidly grew to be a national organisation. She served as the chair for the first three years and continues to sit on the national executive committee.
In 2020, Vice President of the Court of Protection Mr Justice Hayden convened the ‘Hive Committee’ as a small group of key individuals who could consult rapidly on the issues affecting the working of the Court of Protection during the pandemic. Kate represents property and affairs solicitors on this committee, which has been successful since its inception and continues to meet as needed.
Kate is also a member of the Ad hoc Rules Committee for the Court of Protection, and a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.
Interests outside of work
Away from work, Kate enjoys getting out into the country, walking, camping and cycling.
