Professional Biography

Bethany graduated from Queen Mary University of London in 2021 with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB). During her studies, she was actively involved in pro bono work through the university’s Legal Advice Centre, where she supported members of the local community as a Student Advisor. In this role, she assisted with providing legal advice and also gained experience supporting the Centre’s administrative work, giving her early exposure to client care and legal processes.

Following university, Bethany completed a six-month internship with the International Justice Mission, a global non-profit organisation focused on protecting vulnerable individuals from violence. During this time, she contributed to work addressing the online sexual exploitation of children, supporting international efforts to identify, disrupt, and prevent trafficking-related crimes.

Bethany joined Simpson Millar in 2022 as a Paralegal within the Public Law and Human Rights team. In this role, she supported clients in complex and often sensitive cases involving human trafficking, modern slavery, asylum support, and breaches of human rights. Her work also included claims for false imprisonment and unlawful arrest, as well as legal action against public authorities such as the police, prison services, and probation services. She also supported bereaved families through inquest proceedings and assisted with judicial review claims.

Bethany began her Solicitor Apprenticeship in September 2025 through Simpson Millar’s internal Solicitors Qualifying Programme. She has since moved into the Abuse Claims team, where she supports solicitors on a range of cases involving individuals who have experienced abuse.

In her day-to-day role, Bethany assists with all aspects of casework. This includes drafting legal documents such as witness statements, advice letters, and claims, reviewing evidence, preparing chronologies, and attending court hearings. She works closely with solicitors on cases involving civil claims against organisations, local authorities, and individual abusers, and also assists with applications to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA). Her role involves regular contact with clients, ensuring they feel supported and informed throughout the legal process.

Bethany is committed to social justice and has always been motivated by a desire to support vulnerable individuals, including survivors of abuse and those affected by the criminal justice system. She is passionate about using the law to create meaningful change and approaches her work with empathy, integrity, and a clear focus on providing both practical legal support and compassionate understanding.
