Bethany England

Paralegal, Public Law and Human Rights

London

Bethany England is a Paralegal within our Public Law and Human Rights department, based in London.

Professional Biography

Bethany graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Queen Mary University of London in 2021. During her studies, she was actively involved in pro bono work through the university’s Legal Advice Centre, where she supported members of the local community as a Student Advisor. In this role, she assisted with providing legal advice and also gained experience working within the Centre’s administrative support team.

Following university, Bethany completed a six-month internship with the International Justice Mission, a global non-profit organisation working to protect people in poverty from violence. During her time there, she focused on ending the online sexual exploitation of children, supporting a global team in its efforts to expose, disrupt, and prevent trafficking-related crimes.

Bethany joined Simpson Millar as a Paralegal in our Public Law and Human Rights team. She is due to begin her Solicitor Apprenticeship in September 2025 through our internal Solicitors Qualifying Programme.

She helps people with serious legal cases involving trafficking, modern slavery, asylum support, and breaches of human rights. Her caseload also includes false imprisonment claims, unlawful arrest, and legal action against the police, prison services, probation services, and other state authorities. Bethany also supports bereaved families in inquests into the deaths of their loved ones and helps bring Judicial Review claims to challenge decisions made by public bodies.

In her day-to-day role, Bethany assists Solicitors across the department, assisting with all aspects of casework. She drafts legal documents such as witness statements, advice letters, claims, and formal representations. She also reviews evidence, prepares chronologies, and regularly attends court hearings to support clients.

Bethany is committed to social justice and has always been motivated by a desire to help vulnerable individuals, particularly women, children, and those affected by the criminal justice system. She is passionate about using the law to create meaningful change and approaches her work with empathy, integrity, and a clear focus on providing both practical legal support and compassionate understanding to the clients she assists.
