Joanne Levey is a Paralegal specialising in the law of education, and also has experience in community care and public law. She advises and represents clients on a wide range of educational matters including but not limited to preparing appeals and claims to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal, judicial reviews, disability discrimination and securing suitable education for children out of school.
Joanne first began working for Simpson Millar (then known as Maxwell Gillott), in the Lancaster office in May 2012 in the Care Homes Team, where she assisted families in both retrospective and current claims, against Primary Care Trusts who had wrongly denied Continuing Health Care Funding for their elderly and severely disabled relatives. Joanne transferred to the Education and Community Care Team as a telephone advisor in February 2013 and in February 2015 she trained and qualified as a Supervisor for matters funded by the Legal Aid Agency.
Joanne gained her first degree in Politics and Philosophy from Lancaster University in 2002. Following this Joanne combined raising her two daughters with freelance Events Production and Charitable fundraising, alongside a seven year stint as an archivist for the commercial archaeological firm, Oxford Archaeology North. From 2010 -2012, Joanne studied for (and completed) the Graduate Diploma in Law at UCLan, whilst employed as a Care Support Worker, supporting elderly and learning disabled adults to live in the community. Joanne is in the process of beginning her training with the Cilex in order to qualify as a Chartered Legal Executive.
Outside of work Joanne is a singer-songwriter and folk singer, she enjoys walking in the hills and spending time with family and friends.
