Senior Associate Solicitor, Court of Protection
Melanie is a Senior Associate Solicitor in our Court of Protection department. She has more than 10 years’ experience of representing vulnerable adults, children and their family members in Judicial Review applications of Public Law decisions, as well as in cases in the Court of Protection concerning mental capacity, residence and care disputes, deprivation of liberty applications and decisions relating to serious medical treatment.
She specialises in complex cases concerning capacity and sexual relations, contraception and marriage that often also have concurrent proceedings in the family court relating to forced marriage protection orders.
Melanie is regularly instructed by the Official Solicitor, advocacy services and family members who are a party to proceedings or simply require advice before Court proceedings are issued in respect of their loved ones.
She has been mentioned 3 times in the Legal 500, where she was described as a “tenacious associate…who provides clear advice”, as well as a “fantastic lawyer who has immense client empathy”.
Prior to coming to the law, Melanie worked for a Local Authority, a community mental health team, the Department for Work & Pensions and as a support worker at a Women’s Aid refuge. As a trainee Solicitor, she also spent time in housing, public law and crime.
Melanie sits as a member of the Executive Committee of the Court of Practitioners Association (CoPPA). She is also a Law Society accredited Legal Representative (Mental Capacity) and an external Law Society Assessor for the accreditation scheme.
