Melanie is a Partner and head of our national Court of Protection department, a large team of specialist lawyers based in our office locations across the country who can provide clear advice about both health and welfare and property and affairs applications and disputes.
Melanie has more than 10 years’ experience representing vulnerable adults and their family members in cases in the Court of Protection concerning mental capacity, residence and care disputes, deprivation of liberty applications and decisions relating to serious medical treatment.
She specialises in complex cases concerning capacity and sexual relations, contraception and marriage that often also have proceedings running alongside in the Family Court relating to forced marriage protection orders.
Melanie is regularly instructed by the Official Solicitor, advocacy services and family members who are a party to proceedings or simply need advice before Court proceedings are issued in respect of their loved ones.
She has been instructed in a number of reported cases including a case that led to a change in the law.
The Court of Protection has been ranked in Chambers and Partners 2022 Guide.
The Court of Protection Team is also recommended in Legal 500 2022 Edition and Melanie has been noted herself.

Melanie is joint Chair of the Executive Committee of the Court of Practitioners Association (CoPPA). She is also a Law Society accredited Legal Representative (Mental Capacity) and an external Law Society Assessor for the accreditation scheme.
