Maizie Nelson

Maizie Nelson is a Paralegal within our Court of Protection, Health and Welfare team. She is based in Manchester. 

Professional biography 

In her day-to-day role, Maizie supports solicitors with the preparation and progression of Court of Protection cases. Her work includes preparing court bundles and other legal documents, assisting with instructions to barristers, attending court hearings and helping to arrange client visits and meetings involving the different parties in a case. 

She also assists with Legal Aid applications and liaises with medical professionals and other experts to help gather the evidence required for proceedings. Through this work, Maizie helps ensure that cases are carefully prepared and that clients receive clear and compassionate support throughout the process. 

Before moving into Court of Protection, Maizie developed her legal experience primarily within Family Law, with a particular focus on domestic abuse, divorce and financial matters. She spent 18 months working as a Paralegal within a Matrimonial team, where she developed experience in legal research, case management and communicating with clients about sensitive and personal matters. 

Alongside her professional experience, Maizie volunteered with Support Through Court, helping individuals involved in Family Court proceedings understand court forms and procedures, as well as providing practical and emotional support. She also volunteered with an organisation supporting people affected by domestic abuse, where she gained a greater understanding of the challenges they can face and the importance of providing sensitive and compassionate support.
