Areas of Expertise:

Libby Wright is a Paralegal within our Education and Children’s Rights department. She is based in Leeds

Professional biography

Before joining Simpson Millar, Libby worked for and continues to volunteer with the Independent Provider of Special Education Advice (IPSEA) as a Helpline Adviser, providing legally based advice to parents, carers, and young people on matters relating to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Through this role, she has advised on a wide range of issues, including Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), disability discrimination, school exclusions, appeals to the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Tribunal, and Judicial Review matters.

Libby has also volunteered with SOS!SEN, where she assisted with drafting pre-action letters for parents and carers of children with SEND. These experiences have given her valuable insight into the challenges families can face when seeking appropriate educational support and reinforced her commitment to helping children and young people access the provision they are entitled to.

In her day-to-day role, Libby supports solicitors across a broad range of Education and Children’s Rights matters. She assists with Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) appeals, including appeals relating to the contents of an EHCP and decisions by local authorities to cease maintaining a plan. She also supports Judicial Review cases, helping to challenge decisions made by public bodies where appropriate.

Her responsibilities include liaising with families and professionals, reviewing evidence, drafting legal documents, conducting legal research, and preparing cases for hearings. Libby understands that education disputes can be particularly stressful and emotional for families, and she is committed to communicating clearly and compassionately, ensuring clients receive regular updates and feel supported throughout every stage of their case.

Educational background

Libby graduated from the University of York in 2025 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in History, achieving First Class Honours. She has also completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Law (PGDL) in July 2026, achieving a Distinction.

Personal statement

Libby chose a career in law after volunteering with a SEND legal charity and hearing first-hand from parents about their experiences of securing support for their children. Through this work, she developed a strong understanding of the importance of ensuring families are aware of their legal rights and are able to access the educational provision their children are entitled to.

She is passionate about helping children and young people receive the support they need to achieve their full potential and is committed to providing clear, empathetic guidance to families throughout the legal process.
