Paralegal, Court of Protection

Isabel Alexandra Clayton is a Paralegal within our Court of Protection, Health and Welfare department. She is based in Manchester.
Before joining Simpson Millar, Isabel worked as a Paralegal within the Court of Protection team at another law firm, specialising in Property and Affairs matters. In this role, she helped manage the financial affairs of vulnerable individuals who lacked the mental capacity to make certain decisions for themselves under the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
Her experience included preparing Court of Protection applications, drafting legal documents and correspondence, and liaising with clients, families, local authorities, and financial institutions. She also supported the ongoing management of deputyship and personal injury trust matters, helping to ensure that clients' finances and personal circumstances were carefully managed.
Isabel has experience working closely with case managers, medical professionals, financial advisers, and local authorities to coordinate clients' care and financial arrangements. She has also developed experience in legal research, compliance, billing management, and maintaining accurate financial and case records.
Isabel is now developing her experience in Court of Protection Health and Welfare matters, an area she is particularly passionate about because it focuses on important decisions concerning an individual's personal welfare, autonomy, and rights. Building on her previous Property and Affairs experience, she brings strong skills in client care, communication, legal drafting, and working collaboratively with different professionals.
Through her work in Health and Welfare, Isabel is committed to supporting individuals and their families through complex and deeply personal decisions, helping to ensure that their wishes, feelings, and best interests remain at the centre of the process.
Isabel graduated from the University of Chester in 2023 with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), achieving a 2:1. She then completed a Master's degree in European Studies and Human Rights at the Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia, graduating in 2024.
Isabel chose a career in law because she has always been driven by a strong sense of fairness, dignity, and access to justice. She is particularly passionate about protecting the rights of vulnerable individuals and ensuring that every person is treated with compassion, respect, and humanity, regardless of their circumstances.
She is motivated by the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people's lives during difficult times, whether by advocating for their rights, supporting their independence, or helping them through complex legal and personal challenges. Isabel believes that the law should be used not only as a framework for decision-making but also as a way to protect human rights and promote the wellbeing and voice of every individual.
