Professional biography

As a Partner and Team Leader, Alison manages a varied caseload of complex and sensitive Medical Negligence claims, providing clients with clear, practical and compassionate legal advice throughout the claims process. Her work involves investigating the circumstances of medical treatment, reviewing evidence, working with medical experts and advising clients on their legal options. She supports clients throughout the legal process, helping them understand what to expect and ensuring they receive the guidance they need at each stage.

Alongside managing her own caseload, Alison supervises, mentors and trains junior lawyers, supporting their professional development and helping to maintain high standards of legal advice and client care across the department. She is also actively involved in business development, building relationships with other professionals, attending industry events and identifying opportunities to raise the firm's profile and develop the team's work.

Alison has extensive experience handling high-value and medically complex Medical Negligence claims, including cases valued at up to £15 million. Her expertise covers a wide range of serious injuries and medical conditions, including spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, birth and obstetric injuries, cerebral palsy, negligent orthopaedic surgery, surgical errors and multiple limb amputations. She also has experience handling fatal Medical Negligence claims and representing families in matters involving inquests.

Alison began her legal career in 2004, initially working in personal injury litigation and mental health law. During the early stages of her career, she represented patients in mental health tribunal proceedings whilst also developing her experience in Medical Negligence claims. She achieved Law Society accreditation in mental health law in 2011.

Since 2014, Alison has focused exclusively on Medical Negligence, building extensive experience in claims involving complex medical evidence and serious, life-changing injuries. She qualified as a solicitor in July 2012 and has continued to develop her expertise in representing individuals and families affected by failures in medical care.

Professional memberships and accreditations

Alison holds Senior Litigator status with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), recognising her experience in handling personal injury claims.

She is also a member of the Action against Medical Accidents (AvMA) specialist clinical negligence panel, reflecting her specialist experience in Medical Negligence cases.

In addition, Alison holds Higher Rights of Audience (Civil), which allows her to represent clients in civil proceedings in the higher courts.

Earlier in her career, Alison achieved accreditation under the Law Society's Mental Health Law Accreditation scheme in 2011.

Case studies and notable cases

  • Delayed orthopaedic diagnosis and unnecessary surgery
Alison successfully represented a client in a complex Medical Negligence claim against the Ministry of Defence (MOD), arising from a delayed and incorrect orthopaedic diagnosis.
The case involved seven years of litigation and complex medical evidence. During this time, the client underwent unnecessary surgery whilst his underlying condition continued to deteriorate. Through further investigation and specialist medical evidence obtained during the claim, the correct diagnosis was eventually identified, enabling the client to receive the treatment he should have received years earlier and helping to prevent potentially serious further complications.
Alison developed a strong working relationship with the client throughout the proceedings, providing ongoing legal advice and support during a difficult period. Following settlement, the client was able to move forward with his life and pursue an alternative career.
  • High-value Medical Negligence settlements
Alison has successfully settled numerous high-value Medical Negligence claims involving serious injuries and complex medical conditions, including retinopathy of prematurity, birth injuries, spinal cord injuries, paralysis and limb amputations. Her experience includes handling claims valued at up to £15 million, where understanding the long-term impact of an injury and the client's future care and rehabilitation needs can be particularly important.

Educational background

Alison studied at the University of Hertfordshire, where she completed her Bachelor of Laws (LLB Hons) in 2005. She went on to complete her Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice (LPC) in 2007.

Alison was admitted as a solicitor on 16 July 2012.

Personal statement

Alison was drawn to Medical Negligence because of the opportunity to support people during some of the most difficult and life-changing moments of their lives. She recognises the importance of providing clients with clear advice, compassion and determination whilst helping them understand their rights and pursue the compensation they may be entitled to.

She is also motivated by the opportunity to contribute to meaningful improvements in patient safety. Having seen how similar medical mistakes can occur repeatedly, Alison believes that Medical Negligence claims should not only seek appropriate outcomes for the individuals affected but also help highlight failures in care and encourage changes that may prevent others from experiencing similar harm.
