National law firm Simpson Millar has become a Gold Sponsor of Stoke Mandeville Spinal Research (SMSR), an independent national charity funding research to improve quality of life for people living with spinal cord injury (SCI).
Founded in 2006, SMSR supports research that aims to help people live well after paralysis and reduce the impact of the debilitating health complications that can follow spinal cord injury.
The Buckinghamshire-based charity works closely with the National Spinal Injuries Centre (NSIC) and other healthcare settings to help deliver research outcomes that make a practical difference to everyday life for people living with SCI.
Research cited by the charity suggests there are now around 105,000 people living in the UK with a spinal cord injury, many of whom may experience complications from their injury.
Through its Research Grants Programme, SMSR provides grants to spinal cord injury researchers to improve quality of life and deepen understanding and best practice in a range of areas. This includes bladder management (including the treatment and prevention of urinary tract infections), bowel management, pressure ulcers, respiratory care, neuropathic pain, upper limb function and psychological health.
Esther Ralston, Head of Business Development at Simpson Millar, said: “We’re proud to support Stoke Mandeville Spinal Research as a Gold Sponsor. Their focus on improving quality of life for people living with spinal cord injury is incredibly important, and it’s a mission we’re pleased to stand behind.
“By backing research that looks at the complications people can face long after their injury, SMSR is helping to drive progress that could make everyday life safer, healthier and more independent for thousands of people.”
Kate Favell, Corporate & Community Fundraiser at Stoke Mandeville Spinal Research, said:
