Nicola joined Simpson Millar in 2005, and has 12 years’ experience in the legal profession. She qualified as a Solicitor in 2008.

As a Solicitor in our Public Law department, Nicola specialises in Education LawCommunity Care and Court of Protection matters.

After completing her studies in Law at Queen’s University Belfast in 2002, Nicola moved to England in 2005 to undertake a training contract with colemans-ctts, a practice which is now part of Simpson Millar.

Nicola helps secure appropriate education provision and/or placements for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, and advises individuals of all ages on whether they are getting the care or educational provision due to them.

Nicola also undertakes Court of Protection and mental capacity work in relation to Deprivation of Liberty safeguards. She will undertake visits to clients who are deprived of their liberty in care settings to understand their care needs and expectations for the future.

Her expertise is in Community Care disputes, refusals of or inadequacies in Assessments of need, securing suitable education for children out of school and excluded from school, and appeals in cases of services being removed from an individual.

She is a member of the Manchester Law Society.

Interests outside of work

Nicola enjoys spending time with her family and getting out into the countryside for long walks.
