Professional Biography

Somayya graduated with a Law LLB from London South Bank University in 2020 and is currently studying for the Legal Practice Course (LPC) with a Master of Laws (LLM) at the University of Law.

Before joining Simpson Millar, Somayya spent four years working in the Child Care department at another law firm, where she assisted on sensitive family law matters. This early experience gave her insight into the emotional and practical challenges faced by clients going through distressing legal proceedings and strengthened her desire to pursue a career where she could make a meaningful difference.

In her current role, Somayya assists solicitors on a variety of public law and human rights cases, including inquests and matters involving victims of human trafficking. Her responsibilities include drafting key legal documents such as witness statements, Letters before Claim, VTS Representations, briefs to Counsel , instructions to experts and court forms. She also carries out legal research, attends hearings, meets with clients, and helps ensure each case progresses smoothly and with care.

Somayya plays an active part in helping the team uphold the rights of those affected by public body failings, and she is passionate about helping clients access justice, especially in cases where their voices may otherwise go unheard.

Somayya was drawn to Public Law and Human Rights because it reflects the values that first inspired her to pursue a legal career, which are fairness, accountability, and the potential to create meaningful change. She has always been motivated by the desire to help people overcome distressing situations and to support clients who may not otherwise be able to make their voices heard.

She finds public law particularly rewarding because it is both intellectually stimulating and rooted in compassion. The area often involves working with complex constitutional principles, ethical issues and international frameworks, but it is also deeply focused on the people behind each case.

Somayya is committed to continually developing her legal skills whilst contributing to a legal system that puts people first. She believes in using the law to protect those at a disadvantage, and her goal is always to ensure that the clients she supports feel heard, empowered and treated with dignity.
