Professional biography

Shareen has several years of specialist experience advising individuals, families, and professional deputies on matters concerning mental capacity, financial management, and decision-making. She specialises in supporting adults and children who are unable to manage their own affairs, helping to ensure that important decisions about their finances, property, and future are made in their best interests.

A significant part of Shareen’s practice involves managing complex deputyship matters for adults and children, including cases where substantial compensation has been awarded following personal injury or clinical negligence claims. She regularly advises on applications relating to deputy appointments, statutory wills, property transactions, litigation authority, costs authority, and other financial decisions requiring approval from the Court of Protection. She also has experience advising on Personal Injury Trusts, which can help individuals protect compensation awards and preserve access to certain means-tested benefits. In addition, she has assisted families and professionals in disputes concerning deputyships and powers of attorney.

Alongside her Property and Affairs expertise, Shareen has considerable experience in Health and Welfare matters. She has represented individuals through litigation friends in cases involving deprivation of liberty, and has acted in sensitive proceedings involving allegations of physical and sexual abuse.

In addition to her Court of Protection work, Shareen has experience in a range of litigation matters, including professional negligence, contractual disputes, debt recovery, banking and financial disputes, civil fraud, and public law cases. This broader background enables her to provide practical and well-rounded advice when complex legal issues arise.
