London

Areas of Expertise:

Bianca Rajasekaran is a Solicitor within our Court of Protection, Property and Affairs team. She is based in London.

Professional biography

As a solicitor within our Court of Protection, Property and Affairs team, Bianca supports vulnerable individuals and their families with the management of property, finances and other important matters where a person may lack the mental capacity to make certain decisions independently. Her work involves managing deputyship matters, preparing applications to the Court of Protection and working closely with professional deputies, families and other professionals to ensure that clients receive the support they need.

Bianca's day-to-day responsibilities vary depending on each client's circumstances. She may arrange the sale of a client's vehicle following a move into residential care, prepare an application to the Court of Protection for permission to sell a property or organise essential repairs to someone's home. For clients living independently who have limited support from family or friends, her role can also involve helping with practical arrangements that support their everyday lives and wellbeing.

Alongside these responsibilities, Bianca helps safeguard clients' finances, ensuring that appropriate investment advice is obtained and that their assets are managed carefully to meet their long-term care and living costs. She works with case managers, social workers, care providers and local authorities to address clients' needs and support decisions concerning their property and financial affairs. Her approach is guided by the principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, with a particular focus on ensuring that decisions are made in each client's best interests.

Bianca has experience in both Court of Protection and private client matters. Her expertise includes preparing applications for the appointment of professional and family deputies, managing property and financial affairs deputyships, addressing safeguarding concerns and assisting with disputes involving care arrangements and funding. She also has experience in health and welfare matters, including applications to the Court of Protection and decisions concerning the care and wellbeing of vulnerable individuals.

Her wider private client experience includes preparing Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney, administering estates, obtaining Grants of Probate and Letters of Administration, and preparing declarations of trust relating to residential property ownership. This background has given Bianca a broad understanding of the legal and practical considerations involved in managing an individual's finances, property and future arrangements.

Bianca began her legal career as a conveyancing paralegal whilst studying for her Legal Practice Course (LPC) part-time. She initially worked on residential property transactions, including sales, purchases, remortgages and transfers of equity, before progressing to a role involving greater responsibility for managing conveyancing matters and building relationships with other property professionals.

She completed her training contract in September  2024, gaining experience in conveyancing, employment law and private client work. Following her qualification as a solicitor in September 2024, Bianca joined the private client team at another top 50 UK law firm, where she

moved into Court of Protection work, acting on behalf of a panel deputy and trust corporation in the management of property and financial affairs deputyships. During this time, she gained experience in deputyship management, Court of Protection applications, safeguarding matters, care funding disputes and best interests decision-making, further developing her interest in supporting vulnerable individuals and their families.

Case studies and notable cases

  • Successful appeal involving a health and welfare deputyship application
Bianca represented three applicants seeking a health and welfare deputyship order for a vulnerable individual who had sustained a brain injury following a suicide attempt and was experiencing significant mental health difficulties.
Concerns had been raised about the support the individual was receiving from care and social care services. Her health had deteriorated, creating serious concerns about her safety and wellbeing and the arrangements in place to meet her needs.
The applicants sought a health and welfare deputyship order to enable them to take a more active role in decisions concerning the individual's care and welfare. However, the initial application was refused by the Court of Protection. Bianca successfully appealed the decision, resulting in the Court reconsidering the matter. This enabled the family to become more involved in supporting the individual and participating in complex decisions relating to her health and welfare.
The case was particularly meaningful to Bianca because of the difference it made to the individual's support network and the opportunity it created for her family to play a greater role in decisions affecting her wellbeing.

Educational background

Bianca graduated from Birkbeck, University of London, in 2017 with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB Hons), achieving a 2:1. She went on to complete a Master's degree in History at University College London (UCL) in 2018, graduating with a Merit.

In 2021, Bianca completed her Legal Practice Course (LPC) at BPP University in London. She was later admitted as a solicitor in September 2024.

Personal statement

Bianca's interest in law developed from her enjoyment of research, analysis and humanities subjects, particularly history, politics and English literature. These interests encouraged her to pursue a legal career where she could apply her analytical skills to helping others understand and address complex issues.

Her empathetic and client-focused approach subsequently led her to specialise in Court of Protection work. Bianca finds particular satisfaction in supporting vulnerable individuals, recognising the importance of protecting their interests whilst ensuring that their individual circumstances, wishes and needs remain central to the decisions being made on their behalf.
