Bernadette Barrett

Paralegal, Public Law and Human Rights

London

Bernadette is a Paralegal who works in our Public Law and Human Rights team, based in our London office.

After graduating and working as a Court Case Administrator for HM Prison and Probation Service, Bernadette joined Simpson Millar in November 2022. As a Paralegal in the team, she supports Fee Earners with their cases, specifically working with claims brought against Public Authorities.

On a day-to-day basis, Bernadette helps people throughout the legal process from start to finish by attending meetings, drafting letters, collecting witness statements and analysing records to prepare chronologies in order to produce evidence to work towards the best outcome for clients.

As part of her role, Bernadette finds the most fulfillment from giving people a platform for their voice and helping them fight for the justice they deserve, and finds it particularly rewarding to help vulnerable people who she often works with as part of Public Law and Human Rights cases.

Qualifications

Bernadette graduated with a Forensic Studies degree from Winchester University in 2019. She then went on to achieve a Distinction in the Graduate Diploma in Law at Oxford Brookes University in 2022.

Throughout her studies, she volunteered with Amicus ALJ (a legal charity which fights for justice on death row through frontline work) as both a student representative and as an office volunteer. Her team won Amicus’ Stand Out Fundraiser award two years in a row at their student awards night
