Simpson Millar supports domestic abuse charity Safespots.

A user-led domestic abuse support organisation in South Manchester is set to expand its services following a generous donation from national law firm Simpson Millar totalling £2,119.43.

Wythenshawe Safespots – which has supported more than 32,000 women since its launch in 2016 – provides trauma-informed, one-to-one emotional support, group sessions such as The Freedom Programme, and access to wider community services for women and families affected by domestic abuse.

About Wythenshawe Safespots

Founded by survivors, for survivors, Safespots was established by a group of local women who wanted to create a safe space for others who, like them, had experienced abuse. Based in the heart of Wythenshawe, the centre offers non-judgemental, confidential advice and support in a welcoming drop-in environment.

The donation from Simpson Millar will help the charity to extend its reach and ensure more women in crisis have access to the help they need.

Voices from the charity

A spokesperson for Wythenshawe Safespots said: “Wythenshawe Safespots would like to give a massive thank you to Simpson Millar for their extremely charitable donation of over £2,000 to aid our work in helping people currently experiencing, or having previously been subjected to, domestic abuse.

“As a user-led organisation, we take pride in providing trauma-informed and non-judgemental support to those navigating extremely difficult situations, and we greatly appreciate Simpson Millar's recognition of our work.”

Simpson Millar’s perspective

Liam Goggin, who leads the abuse law team at Simpson Millar, which also has a Manchester office, added: “Sadly, domestic abuse is widespread and can affect people from all walks of life.

“Through the work we do, we understand the vital role charities like Safespots play in offering support and guidance to those in need, when they need it most.

“We’re proud to support such an important cause – especially one rooted in our local community – and to play a small part in the incredible work Safespots is doing.

“Their services are truly life-changing, and we’re honoured to help them continue making a difference.”

The impact of the donation

Wythenshawe Safespots spokesperson added: “This generous donation will go a long way in ensuring that our services continue to operate at a high level, and that we can continue providing quality care to victim-survivors and their families throughout their journeys.

“With this contribution, we will be able to offer more one-to-one emotional assistance, run group sessions such as ‘The Freedom Programme’, and connect individuals with a wider community network of like-minded support.

“We are truly grateful for Simpson Millar’s kind donation – it will make a huge difference to the women we support.”
