Greg Cox, CEO of national consumer law firm Simpson Millar, has been appointed as a legally qualified member of the Civil Procedure Rule Committee (“CPRC”) - the body responsible for setting the procedural rules governing civil courts in England and Wales.
A solicitor, solicitor-advocate, mediator and High Court assessor, Greg will begin his three-year term on 11 May 2026, following approval by the Lord Chancellor.
Under his leadership and with the support of brilliant colleagues, Simpson Millar has established a strong reputation for its commitment to representing the most vulnerable and marginalised in society, with claimant-focused work spanning personal injury, medical negligence, Court of Protection, education, abuse, public law and human rights.
Over the past two decades Greg has acted in many of the leading costs and civil procedure cases and advised clients and practitioners. In 2026 this has included Mazur v Charles Russell Speechlys (Court of Appeal test case on rights to conduct litigation and the effect of the Legal Services Act 2007) and PMC v A Local Health Board (Court of Appeal test case setting the balance between Open Justice and the right of children and vulnerable people to seek anonymity orders).
Commenting on the appointment Greg said: “I am honoured to have been appointed to the Civil Procedure Rule Committee especially at a time of material change in the sector. After almost 30 years as a civil litigation practitioner, I care deeply about improving the civil justice system for the benefit of all those using the system. The rules governing civil procedure have a fundamental influence on how people are able to access justice, whether those people are represented or not.
I look forward to contributing in whatever way I can to the work of the CPRC to improve the effectiveness of the rules which govern civil justice. I hope I can bring to bear the perspective of individuals and vulnerable clients and the practitioners who represent those clients.”
Greg’s appointment to the Civil Procedure Rule Committee was announced by the Ministry of Justice following approval by the Lord Chancellor on Thursday the 12th of March. He is joined by two other legally qualified members who have also been appointed – James Egan, of Ten Old Square Chambers, and James Willan KC, of Essex Court Chambers, will both begin their terms on 1 October 2026.
