Professional Bibliography
Jonathan graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2011 with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), achieving a 2:1. He went on to complete his legal training and was admitted as a Solicitor in 2017. Since then, he has dedicated his career to representing families involved with Social Services and the family courts.
Jonathan specialises in public law children matters, often referred to as Care Proceedings, and has worked exclusively in this area for the past 10+ years. His work focuses on supporting parents and extended family members when the Local Authority becomes involved in their lives because of concerns about a child’s safety, welfare, or care. This area of law is highly sensitive and often emotionally complex, and Jonathan is known for his calm, measured approach and his commitment to helping families feel heard and supported throughout the process.
During his career, Jonathan has acted in a wide range of challenging and high-stakes cases. His experience includes representing clients in matters involving Non-Accidental Injuries, where the court must determine whether a child has suffered harm intentionally or through neglect, and in multiple cases where a child has tragically passed away. These cases require careful handling, clear communication, and a strong understanding of both medical and legal evidence - skills Jonathan has developed extensively through his years of practice.
In his day-to-day role at Simpson Millar, Jonathan represents parents and other family members from the very beginning of Local Authority involvement. This includes support during the Pre-Proceedings stage, where Social Services work with families to try to avoid court involvement, through to full representation in Child Care Proceedings if the case is issued in the family court. Throughout, he ensures that clients understand the process, their rights, and the decisions being made about their children.
Jonathan provides clear, practical advice and works closely with clients, Social Services, barristers, and expert witnesses to ensure that every case is prepared thoroughly and presented with care.
Jonathan is a member of the Law Society, the professional body representing solicitors in England and Wales.
