Paralegal, Court of Protection

London

Areas of Expertise:

Jamila Ssali works as a Paralegal within our Court of Protection, Health and Welfare department, based in our London office.

Professional Biography

Jamila was drawn to a legal career through a long-standing interest in social justice and a strong desire to support individuals who may be under-represented or disadvantaged in accessing their rights. This led her to focus on health and welfare matters within the Court of Protection, where legal knowledge and compassionate client support go hand in hand.

Jamila began working in Court of Protection law in February 2025 and joined Simpson Millar later that year, in September. Since then, she has supported solicitors across a wide range of cases involving individuals who may lack the mental capacity to make key decisions about their health or care arrangements. Her primary areas of practice include Section 21A challenges and Section 16 applications under the Mental Capacity Act 2005, which often involve complex decisions around deprivation of liberty, best interests, and safeguarding.

In her role, Jamila assists with many of the tasks required to prepare and progress each case, including drafting applications, preparing court bundles, liaising with local authorities and third parties, and supporting client communication throughout. She also attends hearings, client visits, and roundtable meetings. Her work is focused on ensuring that every case is handled with care, accuracy, and efficiency, and that each client’s voice is heard throughout the legal process.

Jamila is a dedicated Court of Protection Paralegal who is passionate about supporting vulnerable individuals and upholding their legal rights. She takes pride in helping to ensure that each client receives high-quality representation in often complex and emotionally sensitive circumstances. Jamila is particularly motivated by seeing the real-world impact of her work, and by contributing to a legal process that helps bring reassurance, clarity and fairness to those who need it most.
