Paralegal, Child Care Proceedings
Liverpool

Elizabeth Henshall is a Paralegal within our Child Care Proceedings team. She is based in our Liverpool office.
Professional Biography
Elizabeth graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 2021 with a First Class Bachelor of Laws with Criminology (LLB), a qualifying law degree that provides the academic foundation for a career in law. She went on to complete a Master of Laws (LLM) at the University of Sheffield in 2022, achieving a Merit.
In 2023, Elizabeth completed the Bar Practice Training Course (BPTC) at The University of Law, receiving a Competent grade. This vocational course, designed for those training to become barristers, developed her advocacy skills, legal drafting abilities, and her understanding of the court process.
Before joining Simpson Millar in November 2025, Elizabeth gained valuable experience working as a Paralegal at another law firm, where she assisted on family public law matters involving children and families engaged with local authority social care. She later worked as a Paralegal at another law firm focusing on abuse claims, from a defendant perspective, with complex litigation.
Elizabeth has further strengthened her experience through a series of mini pupillages across family, criminal, and civil law. These placements took place at leading barristers’ chambers including Atlantic Chambers, Oriel Chambers, St Ives Chambers, Unit Chambers, St John’s Buildings, and Chavasse Court. Her time in chambers allowed her to observe advocacy in court, understand case strategy, and gain valuable insight into the preparation required for strong and effective representation.
In her role at Simpson Millar, Elizabeth supports our solicitors in child care proceedings, working with parents, extended family members, and children. She assists with case preparation and helps ensure that vulnerable families receive clear, timely, and sensitive legal support during what can be a highly stressful process.
Her day-to-day responsibilities include liaising with clients about the progression of their case, attending court hearings, conferences, and meetings with counsel and clients, and drafting court documents, statements, and attendance notes. Elizabeth also plays an important role in general file management, helping the team progress cases efficiently and with care.
Elizabeth is a member of The Honourable Society of Inner Temple, one of the four Inns of Court in England and Wales. The Inns are professional associations for barristers and student barristers, and membership reflects her commitment to the standards, ethics, and training expected within the wider legal profession.
