Professional Biography

Abigail graduated from the University of Surrey in 2022 with a First Class Honours degree in English Literature. She went on to pass the SQE1 exam and is due to sit SQE2 in January 2026, with the aim of qualifying as a Solicitor later that year. Abigail is part of the Social Welfare Solicitors Qualifying Fund programme, which supports aspiring social welfare lawyers, and has received full funding for her SQE studies in recognition of her commitment to this field.

Before joining Simpson Millar in October 2025, Abigail built a strong foundation in housing and community care law. In 2021, she completed a legal internship at another law firm, where she gained early experience in mental health and community care matters. She then spent three years at yet another law firm as part of the Housing team, where she gained extensive experience. Her work included defending possession claims, bringing discrimination challenges under the Equality Act and Care Act, supporting clients fleeing domestic abuse, and issuing Judicial Review proceedings against local authorities.

Between 2022 and 2025, Abigail also volunteered as a pro bono advisor with Citizens Advice, supporting clients with housing and social welfare issues. Alongside her role, she acted as a duty legal representative in the County Court between 2023 and 2025, assisting tenants facing eviction on the day of their hearings. Abigail’s main areas of legal experience include Judicial Review, housing discrimination and suitability challenges, Care Act claims, and public sector equality duty (PSED) breaches. She has a particular focus on supporting clients who have experienced domestic violence or disability discrimination. In her current role at Simpson Millar, she assists solicitors with a wide range of public law and human rights matters, including taking client instructions, preparing cases for court, and drafting key legal documents such as witness statements, letters before claim, and applications.

Abigail chose to pursue a career in public and human rights law because of her belief in holding public bodies to account and ensuring vulnerable individuals have access to justice. She understands how intimidating and overwhelming the legal system can be for those facing homelessness, discrimination or abuse, and is committed to using her legal knowledge to provide clear guidance and support. Abigail is passionate about the value of Legal Aid and proud to work in an area of law where she can make a real difference to people’s lives.
