Simpson Millar Crowned at Awards
Lawyers and staff at Simpson Millar are celebrating today after sweeping the boards at both local and national industry awards.
The firm was recognised in key categories at the Law Society Excellence Awards; Modern Law Awards, and Yorkshire Legal Awards
Lawyer of the Year
Emma Pearmaine, partner at Simpson Millar and head of the firm’s Family Department collected ‘Lawyer of the Year’ at the Modern Law Awards in London, receiving praise for her strong management and leadership which has contributed to the success of the practice in the last year as evidenced by the surge in Simpson Millar’s performance and market profile.
Angela Jackman, a partner with Simpson Millar’s Education and Community Care team MG Law, was highly commended in the ‘Lawyer of the Year’ category at the Law Society Excellence Awards, also in London, in recognition of her continued work on behalf of vulnerable people in the fields of education, health and social care. Many of Angela’s cases have made national headlines, including her acting recently on behalf of a young woman in Northern Ireland who, having been unable to secure an abortion in her own country, was forced to seek help on mainland UK but denied an abortion on the NHS, despite being a UK citizen.
Private Client Award
And finally Simpson Millar’s importance in the Yorkshire region was also rewarded. The firm’s Private Client team collected the Private Client Award at the Yorkshire Legal Awards at a ceremony in Leeds on Thursday night, with partner Siân Thompson receiving her gong on behalf of the team.
“I would like to warmly congratulate Angela, Emma, Siân and all of the Simpson Millar team members who so richly deserve this recognition from our industry,” says Peter Watson, Managing Partner at Simpson Millar. “2014 has been a red letter year for this firm as we have moved on to the next stage in our development as part of the Fairpoint Group. Now with some of the finest practitioners in the country leading the business forward, we can look forward to 2015 with continued confidence.”
There were also some promising signs for the future at Simpson Millar, as two other staff members narrowly missed out in ‘Rising Star’ categories. Jenine Abdo, a member of Emma’s Pearmaine’s Family Team operating out of the company’s Bristol office was nominated as a Rising Star at the Modern Law Awards while her colleague from the Private Clients team, Helen Forster also received a nomination for Rising Star, this time at the Yorkshire Legal Awards.
The final nomination in Simpson Millar’s half dozen was for the firm’s corporate brand SM Commercial was shortlisted in the Commercial Property category at the Yorkshire Law Awards.
