Ex-wife wants husband behind-bars over £2m divorce debt

A financial advisor could be jailed following claims from his ex-wife that he owes her more than £2m as part of their divorce agreement.

But is jail time really a possibility in such circumstances?

Jane Auty, a family law expert at Simpson Millar, Leeds, said: “Imprisonment due to non-payment of the money owed may seem harsh, but the reality is that it is a risk faced by individuals who fail to comply with court orders”.

”Such cases are rare when looking to enforce an order, and the most likely outcome is that the parties involved will consider alternative ways of ensuring that payment is made”.

Sarah Rogan is demanding a prison sentence for her former spouse, founder of Blenheim Capital Group Grant Rogan, claiming that he has breached an agreement made following their failed marriage.

The finance tycoon had agreed to shell out £5m in instalments four years ago, with an additional £8000 per month in alimony pending the full payment.

Grant claims that he is unable to pay his ex-wife the £2m owed, despite reports that he splashed the cash on his recent £80,000 wedding, leading Sarah to claim he is wilfully refusing to pay up.
