The Labour Party told its members that their data had been breached from a third party called Blackbaud.
In fact, the breach had happened many months before in February, but Blackbaud hadn't noticed until mid May and then didn't report the data breach to their clients until mid July, even though they paid a ransom to the cybercriminal in June.
Blackbaud found that several years worth of data about Labour party supporters had been accessed, including personal and confidential information.
The Labour Party confirmed in an email to its members on 10 August that the following data had been accessed:
- Contact number
- Donation amounts given to the Labour Party
This type of data breach is against the law and you could claim compensation.
